ECOVILLAGE DESIGN EDUCATION
TRAINING FOR SUSTAINABILITY IN ITALY
April 2 – 30, 2011
Based on the Gaia Education Ecovillage Design Curriculum, this seminar is an official contribution to the United Nations Decade of Education for Sustainable Development 2005–2014.
During the holidays, we propose to activate a new way of living, a quiet and active revolution with everyone's participation, a divine birth in all of our hearts.
In these days during which the ancient traditions recall how light and life are born from darkness, let us make this ideal not only a dream for children but an offering that we give ourselves.
Let's take our lives into our own hands!
On Sunday December 19, we shall celebrate the Winter Solstice ritual. The ritual is open to the public. Please contact us beforehand to let us know you are coming!
The next big event shall be the New Year's Eve celebration, which in accordance with Damanhur tradition, we spend together with friends and visitors in the Temples of Humankind. The evening of December 31, we get together for Midnight Action in the Temples, to ring in the new year together, painting the walls and doing some restoration work, in waiting for the celebration of the stroke of midnight.

Launched at the end of December, the project New Life is proceeding non-stop. New Life, if you remember from previous newsletters, offers everyone the possibility to be a citizen of Damanhur for three months, even as a first approach to Damanhur (info: 该E-mail地址已受到防止垃圾邮件机器人的保护，您必须启用浏览器的Java Script才能看到。 ). The three-month period of citizenship substitutes the trial period of formation that Damanhur citizens traditionally go through. At the end of the three months, one can repeat for another three months, become a resident citizen, or move on to another experience.
Now in mid-December, there are already 25 New Life citizens who have come to Damanhur from Italy, Denmark, Germany, Spain, France, Norway, Switzerland, Hungary, Brazil and Japan. They are finding their place within the communities of Damanhur, and another 130 people have stated their intention to come by next June.
The nucleos of Damanhur have been reconfigured in many ways during the second half of 2010, and in the last few weeks, there have certainly been a lot of changes and new evolutions! Many new and smaller community groups are being formed, with around 12 to 15 residents rather than usual 20 to 25. Some larger community groups are being maintained, while other citizens have brought new, smaller communities to life, occupying houses that have been improved and remodeled in the meantime, increasing the overall number of nucleo groups in Damanhur.
Monday December 13, elections were held for the 48th tenure of the King Guides. Uria Sedano and Caimano Salice were elected, succeeding...Uria Sedano and Caiman Salice, who were already holding the role of King Guide together.
A colorful exploration of Damanhur and an interview with Falco is featured in the book Countdown to Coherence: A Spiritual Journey Toward a Scientific Theory of Everything by Hazel Courteney, author, broadcaster and journalist who writes on health and spiritual themes. In Chapter 13 of the book, "The Alchemist, the Temples and the Nature of Time," Courteney recounts her visit to Damanhur in November 2009, describing, amongst other aspects of Damanhur, the construction of the Temples of Humankind.

Patch Adams, the popular American clown-doctor came back to Damanhur for the second time on Sunday December 5th, after a successful seminar held last June. He participated in a series of events organized by Conacreis, while accompanied by his assistant and Italian translator Cristina Finotti. 
Sunday afternoon, Patch led a seminar at Damanhur Crea entitled, "What is your strategy of love? Objective: friendship" for about 150 participants, Damanhurians, guests from all over Italy and international ones too. The dynamic exercises of the seminar escalated in a whirlwind laughter, warmth and openness. Patch shared stories and strategies about loving life, saying that he feels like Damanhur is his second home, and that he finds his passion for art and nature reflected in the way of life here. He then closed the intense afternoon by showing a video of a house-call made in Cuba during one of his many humanitarian clowning trips, which are open for others to join him.
The New Life project continues with enthusiasm on our part, and success for those who are interested. New Life, to remind you, is the project that offers the possibility for everyone to become a citizen of Damanhur right away, entering into the communities for three months. After the three months, participants decide whether or not to continue the experience.
We have already welcomed many new citizens with languages, ages and characteristics that are very diverse, and more than one hundred will arrive by next spring!
Margus Aru, founder of a community in Estonia, came to visit Damanhur after hearing about us from Estonian friends who were present for the Global Ecovillage Network conference here last July. Margus has constructed a village of pyramid houses, built according to Egyptian proportions. This project was begun 8 years ago, and 8 families live there currently. Two more pyramids are being constructed, and there is space for another 6 pyramids in the future.
Margus previously worked as a designer, and after a period of meditation in the woods, he returned to the capital of Estonia to materialize a vision of a place of harmony and love where people can live together. He acquired land and begin constructing the pyramid structures, welcoming others to share in the dream. A central pyramid in the village serves as a spiritual center, where seminars are held for individual work and group sessions of techniques ranging from yoga to rebirthing and fire-walking.
